Thanks for all your prayers during Andrew's recent procedures. It is a lot of info to process, but here you go...
Pulmonology (i.e. lungs) - they did a bronchoscope and found that his epligottis (thingy in the throat) is curved. This is a confirmation of laryngomalacia which is basically noisy breathing. It has no long term implications and is something he will eventually outgrow (6-7 years). However, they did find fluid and secrettions in the upper lobe of his right lung. Early thoughts are that it is from aspirating feedings into his lung or refluxing into his lung, so we need to see a GI specialist to have some more studies run.
ENT - The docotor did not have to remove his adnoids (they were small to average size.) There was quite a bit of fluid in his left ear and some fluid in his right, so they put tubes in each. His right ear is draining nasty goup out of it, and they have given him some antibiotic drops to help heal it. They clipped his tounge (the piece under your tounge) which should help his speech and eating since he can now move it much more freely. We have witnessed the fasted bottle drinking ever!
Audiology - the one results that I really wanted. Well, we are still waiting. When the lady first saw me, she said that she thought he had very limited hearing (if any) in his left ear and was discussing hearing aids, etc. Then she called us later in the day and said that after going over her data, she was getting readings in his left ear, but she could not get them to repeat since he was moving around and the anesthesia people were having to manipulate his neck to control his breathing. (I could have gone without that info). Anyway, she wants her supervisor to read the results, and they will call me later this week. The ENT thinks that any loss he had was due to fluid, but time will tell.
Andrew is doing fine (except for the yuck coming out of one ear) and recovered quickly. We feel like we walked away with more questions than answers and that is very frustrating, so back to the docotors we go.

I'm sure you already have the GI doc lined up, but I really liked the pediatric GI Rosemary saw... his name is Dr. Kaiser and he's with the Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition of FL. (there's a mouthful!!)
Hang in there... it's always so discouraging when you think you're finally going to have some answers and then Poof! no answers, just more waiting. Take a deep breath, the answers will come :) It's great to hear that Andrew did well with his surgery... that little boy is something else!
